Join us for our 20th Annual It’s Time to Talk: Forums on Race which provides the opportunity for everyone to engage in the difficult yet crucial conversations on race and racism. Eliminating injustice requires dismantling all systems and structures of oppression. Participate in a guided exploration of the interlocking aspects of systems and inequities in our workplaces, communities and society to understand what “justice for all” truly means. Equipped with new information, energized by the communal learning space, participants will discuss taking action within their spheres of influence.
Keynote: Angela Davis
Through her activism and scholarship over many decades, Angela Davis has been deeply involved in movements for social justice around the world. Her work as an educator – both at the university level and in the larger public sphere – has always emphasized the importance of building communities of struggle for economic, racial and gender justice. Davis is a distinguished professor emerita of History of Consciousness – an interdisciplinary Ph.D. program – and of Feminist Studies at the University of California Santa Cruz. Davis is the author of ten books and has lectured throughout the world. Like many educators, Davis is especially concerned with the general tendency to devote more resources and attention to the prison system than to educational institutions. Having helped to popularize the notion of a “prison industrial complex,” she now urges her audiences to think seriously about the possibility of a world without prisons and to help forge a 21st century abolitionist movement.
Moderator: Duchess Harris, Ph.D., J.D.
Duchess Harris, Ph.D., is a professor of American Studies at Macalester College, author of “Black Feminist Politics from Kennedy to Trump” and co-editor with Bruce D. Baum of “Racially Writing the Republic: Racists, Race Rebels, and Transformations of American Identity.” Professor Harris began teaching at Macalester College in 1994. In 2009, she won a fellowship from the Bush Leadership Program, and in 2010 she became the first editor-in-chief of Law Raza Journal, an interactive online race and law journal. She earned a Juris Doctorate in 2011 and was promoted to full professor at Macalester in 2013.
Research shows the foundation for sustained change is engaging in dialogue.
It’s Time to Talk: Forums on Race attendees will build their foundation through:

Event Details
This year’s virtual event will take place on Event Cadence, an all-in-one event platform where participants can connect with one another, watch the keynote address and access helpful resources.
Participate in a one-hour facilitated dialogue, Tuesday, Oct. 18:
- 2:00 – 3:00 pm
- 3:00 – 4:00 pm
- 4:00 – 5:00 pm
In late September, registrants will receive an invitation to join the event from Event Cadence. We encourage participants to log in right away and set up a profile. Reserve your spot as soon as possible!

It’s Time to Talk: Forums on Race fosters a space for racial justice engagement that is open to all people, no matter where they are in their racial justice journey. Participants connect with a network of people committed to racial justice and attendees leave the event ready to advance inclusion at work, in the community and with family and friends.
Over 1,000 diverse leaders from business, education, arts and community service will come together to move Minnesota forward through honest conversation about race.
