Arthur Berman

Art Berman is a long-time and active community leader. Formerly a financial services industry executive, he had a 22-year career at American Express Company and its spun-off company, Ameriprise Financial. Among the positions he held were corporate treasurer, treasurer of American Express’s international bank subsidiary, and chief financial officer of multiple company subsidiaries.
Following his departure from Ameriprise Financial, he began a new professional phase in a variety of community service leadership roles. He was chief executive officer of Twin Cities Rise, an anti-poverty program, for six years, and was interim executive director at Interfaith Action of Saint Paul for one year.
Mr. Berman also served in leadership roles on multiple nonprofit boards over the past two decades. Most recently he was board chair of Appetite for Change, and board treasurer of the Public Health Law Center, Better Futures Minnesota, Marnita’s Table, Stratis Health and others. He currently serves on the board for YWCA Minneapolis, Graywolf Press and Open Arms Minnesota.
Mr. Berman published his first book in 2023, a personal memoir about mid-life transformation, “Art in the Middle Ages”. It describes his journey from a corporate career to a community service-oriented life. Art has completed more than forty marathons, and competed in three National Senior Games’ three-on-three basketball tournaments.
