Diverse, Mission-Focused Classrooms and a Wonderful Environment for My Family

Justice Strong is a parent of two children (a five-year-old and a nine-month-old) at YWCA Children’s Center at Midtown. Below, she describes her experience as a parent and how her children benefit from YWCA’s early learning programs.

I enrolled my children in YWCA’s Early Childhood Education because it is a convenient location, with a lot of diversity in the classroom. My experience as a parent at Midtown YWCA has been tremendously wonderful. Since both my children started to attend, they are extremely excited to get up and go to school every day which gives me a secured feeling that my children feel safe and happy in the environment they’re in.

Anti-Bias Curriculum and a Diverse Setting

I love the anti-bias curriculum and YWCA’s mission. I’m happy that my child is provided with an understanding of social issues while teaching her to fight bias and improve social conditions. Since she started, I am seeing her problem-solving progress. They also provide my child with a diverse setting with staff and students from different backgrounds and all who are treated equally.

Good Communication with Teachers

I love that YWCA provides good communication between parents and teachers. They get parents involved by giving us an opportunity to assess our children with an Ages and Stages Questionnaire (ASQ) to measure the development of my children. The teachers also offer insights on what my children may need.

Proud to Learn How to Swim

My daughter’s favorite thing about YWCA Minneapolis is the swimming sessions. She is so proud of herself for learning how to swim and learning how to put her head in the water. She would say “Mommy, mommy I put my head in the water!” Then she would show me how she would do it. I am so proud of her and happy that my five-year-old enjoys school.
