Engaging Families and Creating Community to Support Our Youngest Learners

YWCA Children’s Centers have a strong family engagement component as part of the Early Childhood Education experience in our programs. Our Centers offer opportunities for families to learn, interact with one another and share resources through a variety of fun and educational events, such as family dinners, a night at the science museum, a fall festival and a nature play day.

A Beach Party on the Coldest of Days

At YWCA Children’s Center at Abbott, one of our favorite family events is our annual Beach Party. We purposely plan this event on a cold day in winter to get a little relief from the ice and snow and have some fun together. This year, families took vacation photos at our photo booth, ate tropical desserts and played in the sand.

Conferences, Clothing Swaps, A Lending Library and More

Parent/Teacher Conferences are offered to families twice a year as an opportunity to set goals for each child’s unique development both at home and at school. Families are given opportunities to share resources with each other through activities like clothing swaps, a children’s book lending library and toy drives.
