Peg + Cat Visit YWCA Minneapolis Downtown Children’s Center

On Tuesday, June 21, Peg + Cat, stars of the hit PBS KIDS Series, joined YWCA Minneapolis families at the Downtown Children’s Center for a meet-and-greet and reading of Peg + Cat: The Pizza Problem.

The City of Minneapolis is in collaboration with the Clinton Foundation to promote the “Talking is Teaching: Talk, Read, Sing” Public Action & Awareness Campaign. The goal is to build on existing early childhood and health care initiatives in Minneapolis that foster healthy child development and support parents in actively engaging with their young children. This includes daily talking, reading and singing to children, beginning at birth, to ensure that babies and very young children get a healthy start to life and learning. At the YWCA event, children enjoyed meeting Peg+Cat, singing Karaoke, eating pizza and participating in story time.

We asked some of our parents how they incorporate talking, reading and singing at home:

“Since my son is a toddler he has a short attention span, so he loves sing-along and rhythm books. Having music and a melody makes it easy for him to recite and stay engaged.”“My daughter loves when we read to her. She will pull down books and bring them to my wife and me to read. She loves to make up stories to some of the pictures in the book.”Learn more about our Early Childhood Education programs here.
