Starfish, Sea Urchins, Sharks – Oh My! YWCA Children Visit Sea Life Aquarium
Recently, children in our Early Childhood Education program visited Sea Life at the Mall of America. Field trips are part of our enrichment curriculum – children take regular visits to local community sites, which provide social, cultural and recreational opportunities that are both fun and enlightening.
Touching Starfish, Sea Urchins & Coral
The Sea Life Aquarium was chosen to give children the chance to view many different sea creatures that they don't usually see in Minnesota. In fact, they learn about sea animals that live all around the world. There is also a hands-on experience during the tour that the kids love! They get to touch starfish, sea urchins, coral and more!
Feeding Frenzy
There were a few children who were really scared to go through the aquarium because it was dark – and there were sharks and large animals swimming all around them. But when we saw a diver in the tank feeding the fish and cleaning the aquarium, and the children realized that if he could safely swim in the water with sharks around him, they had nothing to worry about! After that it was nothing but "oohs and ahhs" and "that shark is so cute!".
Exploring the City They Live In
It is important for the children to be able to explore the city they live in and experience the exciting things that it has to offer. Through field trips with YWCA, they get to see a variety of people and attractions and gain a better understanding of their home.Learn More about YWCA Early Childhood EducationSchedule a Tour
