Your Passport to Summer!
It's never too early to think about summer. In fact, YWCA Minneapolis is inviting you to join us this summer as we travel around the world! Our summer camps are a safe, fun and diverse learning experiences designed for many ages, skill sets and interests. Explore art, music and science while celebrating cultures and traditions from Brazil to Japan. Built on a foundation of teamwork, friendship and fun, kids get moving with fitness, learn through field trip experiences and engaging STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Math) projects and discover nature and the city!
Travel Around the World
Imagine traveling to Spain, Mexico, Somalia and Costa Rica. Last year, as part of our “Passport to Summer” camp, children learned about these four countries and more. They made maracas and drums, learned native dances from Costa Rica and listened to music native to the nine countries they studied. They learned Somali and Arabic greetings, and learned and performed a short Somali folk tale. At the end of the week, a new stamp was added to their "passports."
What to Expect
We offer fun activities for our campers. In the morning, we gather to learn the schedule and activities for the day, including, STEAM, music and opportunities to play in the gym or outside on the playground.
After a busy morning and lunch, campers can rest and read their favorite book or play quiet games. The afternoons are just as busy with more outdoor play, more STEAM activities and working in the garden planters. Of course, there is also breakfast, lunch and snack. This year, we will explore new adventures and travel to ten countries like the Philippines, Sweden and Nigeria; exploring the traditions, cultures, language, music, food, art and other areas of interest to the campers. Our Early Childhood Education enrichment specialist will also teach our campers about textile art (yarn, ribbon and fabric) and textile artists.
So pack your suitcase and grab your boarding pass and passport to join us on another exciting trip around the world! We look forward to seeing you.
