Well-Balanced Curriculum and Positive Environment Helped My Daughter Find Her Stride

Parent Wade Jackson describes how his daughter found her stride after enrolling in YWCA Minneapolis Children's Center. He gives a lot of credit to the Center and its positive environment. Read on to learn more about Wade's family and their experience at YWCA.

What has your experience been like as a parent in the YWCA Minneapolis Early Childhood Education Program?

Our family experience at YWCA Minneapolis Children's Center at Ecolab has been wonderful. We would recommend the program to any parent or family interested. Teachers and administration are very engaged and supportive. The curriculum is well-balanced and includes a significant amount of art and reading, both of which are important to our family. In addition, the program offers children the opportunity to be involved in extracurricular activities like music and dance, (which we take advantage of currently), as well as coordinated field trips to Minnesota Children’s Museum, the library and local events, which our children really enjoy.

How many children do you have enrolled in YWCA’s Early Childhood Education program?

We have two children enrolled in the early childhood education program, ages 2 and 4.

What makes the YWCA Minneapolis Early Childhood Education Program stand out?

What separates our experience at the YWCA Minneapolis Early Childhood Education Program compared to other programs is the close connection the teachers and staff have with our family. We also very much appreciate the strong lines of communication.

Why do you choose to enroll your children in YWCA’s Early Childhood Education program when you have so many other options for child care?

After our relocation to the Twin Cities area, we noticed our youngest daughter’s development had slowed. Although we didn’t know if it was a result of the program we were enrolled at the time, we thought she needed a change from that center with the hopes that it would restart her growth. And looking back, it was the best decision. After we enrolled her at YWCA, she immediately found her stride. We give a lot of credit to the Center and the positive environment they cultivate.

Would you like to say anything about your children’s teachers?

We have had a really close connection with all of our children’s teachers. All of the teachers have been in tune with our girls’ physical and emotional development.

Do you participate in any of the family engagement activities? Are these events important to you?

We really enjoy the family-time opportunities at the center. They are always very thoughtful. It gives us a chance to connect with other parents as well as socialize with the teachers, something we don’t pause to do enough. The activities are a lot of fun and our children enjoy having us spend some time in their world.

What would your children say is their favorite thing about YWCA’s Early Childhood Education program?

I would say two aspects stick out immediately: the friends our kids have connected with in their classrooms and the teachers. Both of our girls love their teachers in every room they’ve been a part of thus far.

Anything else you would like to add?

I like the fact that the program is flexible and accommodates our work schedules. I also love the number of art projects and sensory activities integrated into the classroom curriculums.
