YWCA Minneapolis Children, Parents and Staff March for Women's Equality

On March 8, more than 400 children, teachers, staff and parents marched at four of the YWCA Minneapolis Children’s Centers to recognize the enormous value that women of all backgrounds add to our socio-economic system--while receiving lower wages and experiencing greater inequities, vulnerability to discrimination, sexual harassment and job insecurity. Children, teachers, staff and parents wore red in solidarity with those participating in and supporting the strike.

International Women's Day and A Day Without A Woman Strike

The strike coincided with International Women’s Day, which began in 1908 when thousands of women gathered in New York City to demand better working conditions, better pay and the right to vote.

Children, teachers and staff chanted:

One, Two……Mommy I Love You!Three, Four…………Women Need More!Five, Six…………Get in the Mix!Seven, Eight…………Women are Great!Nine, Ten…………Let’s Do it Again!Children’s signs proclaimed: “We March for All Women”, “The Future is Female”, “I Would Not Be Here Without My Mommy” and “We Love Moms”.
