YWCA Minneapolis Welcomes Dr. Ibram X. Kendi

With friends and partners at Birchbark Books, YWCA Minneapolis was privileged to host celebrated author Ibram X. Kendi on his literary tour, Thursday, Sept. 15, with a stop at Fellowship Missionary Baptist Church.The illustrious writer of "Stamped" and "How to Be an Antiracist" introduced our community to his latest work for youth, "Magnolia Flower." This story of an Afro-Indigenous girl was inspired by the work of Zora Neale Hurston and illustrated by Loveis Wise.Tickets for this event went at an astonishingly fast pace. In the matter of a few days, only 25 seats out of 250 were left. Fortunately, we were able to add more seating and all ticket holders received a copy of Magnolia Flower signed by Dr. Kendi."It warms and holds my spirit when I look out at audiences and see young people holding their copies of Magnolia Flower.
