Sharon Luster Dykes

Board-Certified Colon and Rectal Surgeon

Sharon Luster Dykes, MD, FACS, FASCRS is a dual board-certified colon and rectal surgeon who received her Bachelor’s Degree as well as her Medical Degree from Brown University in Providence, RI, in 1988 and 1991, respectively. She pursued and completed her General Surgery Residency and subsequent Colon and Rectal Surgery Fellowship at the University of Minnesota. She has practiced colon and rectal surgery in the Twin Cities of Minnesota since 2003 and launched her solo, independent surgical practice, and serves as CEO of Minnesota Colon and Rectal Surgical Specialists since 2010.

She currently serves as a Senior Oral Examiner and an Associate Written Examination Committee member for the American Board of Colon and Rectal Surgery. She has served on numerous committees for the American Society of Colon and Rectal Surgeons, currently includes the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Committee and the Self-Assessment Committee, for which she is the Vice Chair.

She is a passionate advocate for colorectal cancer screening and has participated annually in the Minnesota Department of Health’s SAGE Scopes Program, which offers free screening colonoscopies for the under- and uninsured.

In her personal life, she is mother to her four adult children and grandmother. She is a proud member of the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated® and the Minneapolis-St. Paul Chapter of the Links, Incorporated®. She also enjoys biking, traveling and mentoring girls with STEM interests and women pursuing leadership roles.
