A Family Tradition: Racing in Triathlons!

YWCA Minneapolis hosts four Indoor Triathlons each year January through April. These are fun, low-key events where community members can work toward their personal fitness goals during the cold Minnesota winters. Below is a story originally published at MN Tri News about a family of racers!  Jeremy Wheaton, his wife Kara and their teenage kids, Ellie, Hunter and Grier all participated in YWCA's January Indoor Triathlon as a family. Jeremy sent in these words:

Racing as a Family

We are a husband and wife who have competed in triathlons for over 15 years. Kara competed in one of our first races with the pronounced baby bump of our oldest who was born later that year! We love that YWCA's indoor event allows for a controlled environment where we can introduce our kids to their very first triathlons.

Competing Together & Supporting Each Other

This January’s race was our youngest’s first-ever triathlon and she was nervous. That’s all out the window now that she completed one! Though the kids do minis and we do the short, we all compete in the same wave together, which made us all feel more comfortable for their first time. Additionally, it gives us the benefit of supporting (and challenging) each other along the way. The event is well organized and the staff and volunteers are remarkable! Whether your first or 100th triathlon it’s always awesome to hear clear instruction, encouraging words and of course constant cheers throughout the event! We are looking forward to being back as a family in March for round two of 2020!Learn more about YWCA's Indoor Triathlons
