A Time for Celebration and Appreciation at the Beacons Program Family Fun Night

As 2019 slowly came to an end, the Beacons program at Hmong International Academy celebrated with its first big event, the Golden Harvest Family Fun Night. The event brought 100 attendees (family, youth and community) together to enjoy a night full of educational activities and games.

Carnival Games and Crafting “Thank You” Cards

The night began with carnival games such as Ring Toss, Bow & Arrow, Face Painting and more. For the little attendees, we had a game called Lucky Ducky where the children happily enjoyed lollipops. The arts and crafts station was among the most popular that night – nearly all who attended sat down to create a “Thank You” card to give to a friend or family member. It was a successful event, with much due to the staff supporters and community partners who were able to present games for youth and families to play and fun prizes to give away.

Turkey Bingo

With the largest prize to look forward to, families excitedly shuffled into the cafeteria to play multiple rounds of bingo while enjoying their light meals. Families had a blast and even some first-timers left with a 15-pound turkey, excited for their holiday breaks. We hope for this event to grow in the future and hope to increase the number of turkeys we can send home with families to ensure a fun, happy and delicious meal during the end-of-year school break. A huge thank you to all the youth, families and community for taking their time from their busy schedules to take part in this event!
