Early Learning Center Storytime with Dr. Bache-Wiig

YWCA Minneapolis Children's Center at Abbott Northwestern recently received a visit from the president of the hospital, Dr. Ben Bache-Wiig, along with YWCA Minneapolis Interim President and CEO, Mary Jones. They came to the preschool and prekindergarten classrooms to join “Circle Time” and read the children a story.

As they gathered around Dr. Bache-Wiig, or Ben as he introduced himself to the children, he began to read the book Owen by Kevin Henkes. It told the story of a young mouse who needed to give up his fuzzy blanket when it was time to go to kindergarten. The children had many questions for Ben about the book. They talked about their families with him, noting that the character in the book had his mom and dad to help him during a tough time.Reading to children is one of the key steps in developing early literacy, so anytime YWCA Minneapolis has a guest reader it is a benefit to everyone. This was a fantastic opportunity for building our relationship with our benefactors at the hospital, while introducing our children to people in the immediate community.  By the looks of the smiles on the faces, including Dr. Bache-Wiig’s, a positive experience was had by all!
