Girls Inc. Launches New Council to Help Girls Become Creators of Change
Coming this October, Girls Inc. at YWCA Minneapolis will launch an exciting new program for teens – a Council for Advocacy and Change! This will be a unique opportunity for high school youth who want to make a difference in their communities. Applications are being accepted until October 12.
Addressing Issues Faced by Girls
Benefits of joining the Girls Inc. Council for Advocacy and Change include:
- Gain experience serving in leadership roles
- Meet girls across the Twin Cities committed to advocacy and change
- Opportunities to volunteer in the community
- Advise YWCA Minneapolis staff on program and strategy
- Work on an advocacy project addressing challenges faced by women and girls
- Monthly attendance includes a $15 stipend and dinner
Building Skills to Take Action
High schoolers in the program will explore a variety of topics that directly impact women and girls, like gender inequity, racism, sexual health and media literacy. The girls will then build skills to be advocates in the community and take action with the support of their peers.The group will meet twice a month at YWCA Midtown starting October 24.
