Over 1,400 Triathletes Swim, Bike, Run their Way to Athletic Goals and Beyond

The weather was beautiful, the energy of the crowd was buzzing and the inspiration was boundless. On Sunday, racers, volunteers and fans gathered at Lake Nokomis in Minneapolis for the 11th Annual YWCA Women's Triathlon. Girls and women, ages 11 through 80, swam, biked and ran their way through the beautiful course YWCA Women's Triathlon calls home.

This year’s race was record-breaking – it was largest race yet with 1,411 racers, 400 volunteers and over 4,500 spectators. Gaining over 40 percent more registrants in just the last two years, we can now proudly say YWCA Women’s Triathlon is now the largest women-only triathlon in the contiguous United States!

“Best Experience Ever”

There was a great mix of racers out there on the course – from first-time racers, to family relay teams spanning three generations, to best friend fundraising teams, to elite athletes. One participant shared that it was the first triathlon she’s ever done and “it was truly the best experience ever!” and that she will be back with many friends next year.Another triathlete, Mai Kou, shares why she was glad to be back after a 3-year break to race in her second YWCA Women's Triathlon:
