Doctoral Candidate: DaVonna L. Rucker
YWCA Minneapolis is pleased to share that Girls and Youth Program Manager DaVonna L. Rucker has been awarded a tuition-free scholarship to pursue a doctoral degree with corporate community partner, Capella University. The award means DaVonna will be doing double duty as Girls Resolution and Prevention Program Manager while tackling graduate coursework in the discipline of Human Services.In June, Capella University invited all YWCA employees to apply for the award to pursue a master's or doctoral degree. That's when DaVonna stepped up, applied and persevered through the intense application process. In her award notification, Capella University Executive Dean for Social Responsibility and Community Engagement wrote:"The review panel for this competitive scholarship was impressed by your application and moved by your story. We could not be more excited to have you join Capella University and the Capella Fellows Program." --Barbara Butts Williams, Ph.D.In sharing the news of her acceptance, DaVonna posted to her LinkedIn account:
"Say hello to your 2022-2023 Capella University CU Fellow. I have been selected for a full-tuition scholarship to earn my Doctorate in Human Services (DHS) in Leadership and Organizational Management.I plan to use this program to enrich my skills in complex social problem solving, managing organizational effectiveness, and collaborating constructively with organizations. I will build my expertise in advanced strategy at the executive level further driving the change needed in my community.I never thought I would be pursuing education beyond a Bachelor’s degree, but God did! Additionally, DaVonna expressed gratitude to YWCA Minneapolis leadership.
