Relaxation and Stress Relief: Yoga Nidra

Yoga Nidra means yogic sleep. It is a powerful practice that facilitates deep relaxation, and healing. It takes your brain through the different stages of sleep, thus feeling like you got around four hours of sleep, or so. It also helps relax the nervous system, heart and skeletal muscles, deepens self-awareness, and is helpful for high blood pressure, circulatory problems, stress-related illnesses, and with disorders associated with aging. You start the practice by laying down, getting comfortable, in a warm and dark space, and listen. There is nothing else to do. You can find Yoga Nidra books or CDs. Some recommendations are Rod Stryker's "Relax Into Greatness" CD, and local teacher Tara Cindy Sherman has created a beautiful Yoga Nidra practice on CD that you can find at the Yoga Center of Minneapolis.
