Luncheon and Purse Auction Celebrates Community

21st Annual Circle of Women Luncheon is Testament to Work of YWCA Minneapolis

On May 4, more than 1,200 community and business leaders in the Twin Cities will gather at the 21st Annual Circle of Women luncheon to hear the stories of individuals empowered by YWCA Minneapolis.Luncheon guests are over 90 percent women and will gather early to bid on a silent auction of the latest styles in purses and handbags. During the auction, attendees have time to network and take photos to share on social media.View photos from last year’s event.

Sabrina Mohamed – YWCA Girls and Youth program participant

Sabrina is 15 years old and a freshman at Cristo Rey Jesuit High School. This summer begins her third year in Girls Inc. at YWCA Minneapolis Eureka!, a five-year program for girls in 8th to 12th grade, focused on STEM. Sabrina loves being part of her all-girls group where she can be herself and be confident. She wants to go to Smith College then go on to medical school at the University of Minnesota to become a pharmacist.

Chee Xiong – YWCA Girls and Youth program alumna

Chee first started attending YWCA Girls and Youth afterschool programming for Hmong girls in middle school. Now 24 years old, she works full-time at Hmong International Academy (HIA) as a paraprofessional and transitions over to the YWCA Beacon Learning Center at HIA as a counselor during their afterschool programming. Chee will graduate from Concordia University this month with a Master of Arts in teaching K through 6th grade.

Luz Maria Frias, President and CEO of YWCA Minneapolis, will reflect on the importance of women’s leadership in the community and the YWCA mission to eliminate racism and empower women and girls.
