YWCA Celebrates Week of the Young Child
On April 24 – 28, YWCA Minneapolis Early Learning Centers will join children from across the country in celebrating NAEYC’s Week of the Young Child. The Week of the Young Child is an annual celebration sponsored by the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC), the foremost professional association for the early childhood field. This week is a time to plan how we – as citizens of a community, of a state, and of a nation – will better meet the needs of all young children and their families.
Celebrating With Daily Activities
Each YWCA’s Children’s Center will plan activities around the 2017 Week of the Young Child daily themes:
- Music Monday
- Tasty Tuesday
- Work Together Wednesday
- Artsy Thursday
- Family Friday
Children will have opportunities to learn while singing, eating, building together, creating art and celebrating together as a community of teachers, children and families.
YWCA Family Celebrations
A highlight of YWCA’s Week of the Young Child activities will be our family celebrations:
YWCA Minneapolis Children’s Center at Hubbs Center for Lifelong Learning
Hubbs will host a marketplace where children will dress in the traditional attire of their culture and sell inexpensive trinkets for families to purchase, with sales going toward a field trip. The celebration will also include an ice cream social.
YWCA Minneapolis Children's Center at Ecolab
Ecolab families and staff will gather for a Bubble Party including music, dancing, games, and of course, lots of bubbles! Families will also enjoy ice cream sundae treats.
YWCA Minneapolis Children's Center at Midtown
Family Friday at YWCA Midtown will include a family dance party put on by KidsDance and DJ Howie Do It. Children, staff and families will all get to boogie on down together. YWCA will provide water and healthy snacks while participants enjoy the lights, music and sharing their favorite dance moves!
YWCA Minneapolis Children's Center at Downtown
YWCA Downtown children, families and staff will gather together for a Heritage Festival on April 26. The Heritage Festival is an opportunity for our children to learn more about the different backgrounds of fellow classmates. Before the event, each classroom will create a display board showcasing what they learned about heritage over the course of the month. The boards will be on display during the Heritage Festival. Children can also wear traditional clothing from different places around the world for a Heritage Fashion Show at the event.
