YWCA Girls and Youth Participants get FIT with the Minnesota Lynx

YWCA Girls and Youth

On Tuesday, August 16 about 40 youth from across our YWCA Girls and Youth program attended a one-hour Minnesota Lynx Fit Clinic at the Mayo Clinic Fitness Center in downtown Minneapolis. At the clinic, Lynx players and coaches shared details about their work as professional athletes. Then, they led the youth in a variety of basketball warm-ups and drills—all on the same court used by the Minnesota Lynx and Timberwolves to practice on.  This was particularly “magical”, as most youth agreed that not only was it one of the best field trips, but that they “got better just by stepping on the court”!Many of our youth love to watch or play basketball, and this was a great opportunity for them to learn some techniques to increase their skills while highlighting the importance of teamwork.  High-fives and cheers were had by all, whether the ball swooshed through the basket, or bounced off the rim.  As one of our youth shared, “It was so cool to keep getting high-fived by the [Lynx] players.  It made me feel like I was really a part of the team!”Participants also got to walk away with Lynx swag, personalized autographs, pictures and snacks.  It was truly a fun and rewarding experience for all.
